Tips and Variations

  • If you want to make this chili spicier, you can add some chopped chipotle peppers and adobo sauce from a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. You can also use different types of dried chilies, such as ancho, guajillo, or pasilla.

  • If you want to make this chili thicker, you can add some masa harina (corn flour) to the pot. Masa harina is commonly used in Mexican cuisine to make tortillas and tamales. You can find it in the ethnic aisle of your grocery store or online.

  • If you want to make this chili healthier, you can use ground turkey instead of ground beef. You can also use low-sodium beef broth and diced tomatoes.
